My old laptop was dead for months. After I got it repaired, I cleared the saved passwords from that device. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize it was a synced device, and this action also wiped out my data from my new laptop. Is there any way to retrieve this data on my new laptop, considering my old one is still synced?
Only way might be if you can recover your passwords on the old device. Maybe a system restore to an earlier point. Or if you have something like Recuva that can find the deleted file(s), assuming you can find them. But that’s a bit of a long shot. Then from there could try to sync it together or at least export everything.
If you’re asking if Brave can restore data to an earlier point or access your information directly, the answer is no.
i was wondering if brave stores such data locally?
Passwords? yeah. But when deleted, it’s generally removed. But that’s why I said if something like Recuva, it might be able to locate the deleted passwords. Though I think the way it’s handled, it’s not as easy as it would be for other things.
If you go to brave://version
on any of your devices, you’ll see where it lists a Profile Path. Passwords are saved in the pathway shown there. Just keep in mind that passwords are encrypted, so it won’t be as simple as finding the folder and then opening it. It’ll have to pass through Brave and the OS will have to be the same User and all, as it uses your OS login credentials for the encryption.
Keep in mind that Sync just is end to end sharing and encryption. So everything being synced is being stored in your browser folders. Then as deleted, would be getting removed.
Restoring data is easier if done immediately. As devices are turned on or off, has more data saved, etc then it becomes more likely things are lost forever.
