Android Tablet: Only Desktop-View and too small fonts

Hi,

I’m coming from Firefox, tried Brave and left a poor review on Google Play. The devs answered me and asked to provide more detailed feedback on the Brave community which I’m happy to do. I would love to see Brave become a usable browser!

So here is my feedback: On the Android tablet (Huawei MediaPad M5), Brave shows many websites only as the desktop-version. Even when unchecking the desktop-view, it does not go to the mobile view. This causes a suboptimal layout for the mobile device and much too small fonts. There is no way to improve this.

I chose Amazon as an example because this is a very commonly used website and it does not provide explicit access to the mobile view (e.g. m.amazon.com) so it relies on the browser. I have this problem on many websites. Some of them allow switching to the mobile version, but for those sites that don’t allow it, Brave also doesn’t allow it while Firefox defaults to the mobile view with reasonable font sizes.

This is how it looks in Brave: it obviously is the desktop view. The font size of the URL is what I would consider “normal”. The text on the site is much smaller. Too small. The checkmark “deskop-site” has been unchecked.

I went to the menu “zoom” and changed the zoom to 300%. This is how it looks: You can see that 300% is about 10% larger than 100% and it does not scale the text, it just zooms in everything, requiring scrolling horizontally. So the zoom feature is not useful, even if it worked. Pinch-Zooming can zoom in as far as I want, but again, requiring horizontal scrolling.

Finally, let Firefox show us how it should look: I did not make any specific browser settings, I just opened Amazon and Firefox presents it in a readable way (but crashes very very often, this is why I’m here). This is the mobile site with reasonable font sizes.

I hope this feedback is helpful.
