Ally Bank requires 2 factor login every day

Every day I go to log into my Ally Bank account, it prompts for 2 factor authentication after I enter my user name/pw. I always click on the option to save this browser (since it’s on my personal pc). After 24 hours, I have to redo the above to access my Ally account. This is the ONLY site I have this issue with. I also don’t have this issue with Chrome or Edge. I’ve tried protecting ally.com and secure.ally.com cookies, but that apparently isn’t the issue. I also disabled all shields on their site to no avail.

The exact login URL is secure.ally.com

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no) Yes

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off? No

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no): No

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? Yes

Brave version (check About Brave): 1.51.114

@DawgFanInTN I know you answered, but I want to verify. Have you turned off Shields for the site and kept it off? Part of me was wondering if it might be because it’s trying to use a particular tracker or cookie which otherwise is being blocked by Shields. So if you have it off for Ally’s website, would hope it would work.

For anyone who may see this topic and be unaware, you can toggle Shields setting for a particular site just by clicking on the Shields lion icon and then turning off. This is site only settings, whereas settings that affect all sites would be located via SettingsShields.

Oh, and also wanted to ask, are you using a VPN or proxy by chance?

Thank you. I just re-verified that I have all shields turned off for the site. I am not using a VPN or proxy.

@DawgFanInTN Thanks for ruling that out. Only other thing I’m going to have you test while waiting for Support to get to you is if you might be able to create a new browser profile and if it happens there as well. Make sure you don’t install any extensions or change settings on the new profile. This just is trying to confirm it’s not something in cookies, settings, or your extension that might be creating conflict.

If it keeps you logged in on new profile, we have to visit those three areas (usually starting with extensions and/or cookies). A lot of times, minor issues get fixed with that. Especially if it works on Chrome but not on Brave. But if it persists, then suggests it’s something else and is then on to just the professionals to look at, lol.

I’ve set up a new profile and signed in. I’ll have to wait 24 hours and attempt to sign in again to see if it replicates.

I am not seeing the same behavior on the new profile. The only difference I can discern is that my main profile has Bitwarden installed as an extension and I had Do Not Track toggled in the settings. The other settings appear to all be the same. I turned off the Do Not Track setting today and will wait to see if that was the culprit. Other than that, I’m at a loss as to why it is acting the way it is on my main profile and not on the new one.

@DawgFanInTN Yeah, the things to rule out is the Do Not Track perhaps. But then if that doesn’t do it, would be to see if it’s Bitwarden. And if it is Bitwarden, then not sure if you’ll say better to remove it, if would contact them and Support here to see if they can figure it out, or if you’d say the 2fa is a small price to pay and keep using, lol.

I’m really at a loss on what the issue is. It is still doing it. And now, Amex has started requiring 2FA login daily as well. It’s kind of aggravating that Chrome and Edge don’t act this way, but something about Brave is causing it. Honestly, it’s easier to load Edge for my financial accounts and use Brave for everything else. A hassle, but it will prevent the daily 2FA challenges since none of the suggestions have fixed the problem. I do appreciate your help, Saoiray, in trying to help me solve this.

@DawgFanInTN Never did see you respond to see if you tried removing Bitwarden.

How so? According to you earlier, issue didn’t occur on new profile. So even if you switched to alternative profile on Brave for those accounts, that would be easier/better. But biggest thing is if it’s happening only in old profile, it’s one of your settings or extensions most likely.

Amex is requiring 2FA on the new profile as well. I am not having to use it when I switch over to Edge. It is a Brave thing.
