All settings wiped, all profiles

Description of the issue:
I restarted my PC. Brave Browser said it had an update, figured it would update during reboot.
When my system came back up, Brave was back to factory default. No profiles, no sync, everything new, even the annoying popups about features.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Restart PC, maybe when Brave has updates
  2. Everything gone

Expected result:
Brave continues to behave normally, including keeping profiles and sync and everything else.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave is up to date
Brave 1.79.119 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium: 137.0.7151.68

I was able to re-enable sync on my different profiles (btw I could not find the profiles button anywhere, had to google and found a thread where someone said ctrl-shift-m), and sync is restored, but of course all connected apps, everything is reset. Everything wants me to re-verify because “I’m on a new device”
Very very annoying. If I didn’t have my sync codes I would be annoyed enough to switch browsers.

@mboeker thank you for reporting. Has this happened before? Do you know which version you upgraded from by chance? @Alexey when you have time would you mind taking a look? CC @Mattches as well in case follow up is needed while I’m PTO.

@mboeker , is this on Windows OS?

This was the first time it happened. I’ve only been using Brave a couple months.
