July 23| contacted me and told me they would help me get back my Bitcoin that I lost which is what the original post is about. They had me deposite the same amount that I lost originally from my Robinhood account, to my brave wallet, they said so they could do a āreversalā and I could get my Bitcoin back. The money that I transferred from Robinhood to my Brave wallet disappeared. The wallet address that I sent the btc to was changedā¦ although the same seed phrase works with the new wallet address. I know the address where I sent my Robinhood btc to can I restore that address in my brave wallet. Why does the original seed phrase work with what is now a new wallet address?
So now I have lost double the amount that I originally posted about probably around 8,000 usd
Iād import to another wallet like Phantom. Hopefully it all shows up. If not they could use a bip-39 tool to generate individual addresses and private keys to import in to Phantom. Like you said though, Brave canāt really help with using random tools on github.
Hi @klcorbitt - have you heard back regarding any transaction links or information?
@alankillie Thank you. Implementing the bip-39 tool looks a little complicated, but thanks I may try it. I donāt need an address generated, I need my old address back, which is what the hacker stole. I am left with a new address that works with my seed phrase but has a zero balance. I had tried using a phantom wallet and importing a wallet with my seed phrase, same result 0 balance. I canāt believe I was such a fool. From what I have research there is hacking software that can change an address in the browser. I don 't understand why the same seed phrase works, I guess itās how the wallet is set up. Loosing this money is hard ā¦as I am a single unemployed mom. I donāt really have any hope of getting it back. I think everyone should be careful because the hacker was a member of this community. They were using information from the community to hack me. I noticed another member that very recently joined, who was pointing me toward a place that could help me. I would not be surprised if they were also a hacker. @steeven I have reported all the information that I have to IC3.
A less complicated option would be to import into Electrum wallet. If you autodetect accounts you can import native segwit and legacy wallets. Visually it would show any transactions under both address types.
If there are no transactions then you could try importing the seed while changing accounts. You would just change the 0h to 1h in the derivation path. It will then show you all addresses under account 1. Is it possible your BTC went to account 1? TBH I have no idea, Iām just racking my brain as to what I would check.
Hi,
I tried this an found 58 Bitcoin deposited and then taken out. the bitcoin was distributed to 20 different accounts. What can I do with this information? Thanks, Kris
I was given an option to freeze the wallet which I did.
I was hoping there would be an address or transaction to help you figure out what happened to the initial BlockFi deposit
I canāt get that, Blockfi took down their website. I only have the date and the amount. The address of the wallet it was sent to was my original wallet addressā¦ but the address was changed. I now have a new address that works with the same seed phrases. This also happened with the second hack. I know the address that the btc was sent to from my Robinhood account. It is different than the address that is now associated with my brave wallet. In both instances I believe the wallet address was changed but the seed phrase remained the same. I canāt prove it for the original theft but can for the second one, as I have a record of the transaction on robinhood to reference.
As mentioned in my DM to you, please do not use a wallet with the same recovery phrase that was provided to the scammer. That wallet is compromised. You will need to start a completely new one. Do not send any funds to the wallet that uses the same recovery phrase as before. Thank you.
