Ad Pops-up in New Tab, then closes after 2s

Description of the issue:
When navigating on Brave, a pop-up to a random website will appear in a new tab then close after a couple of seconds. This has happened 3-4 times - two of the websites that I recall are amerisleep.com and lyre’s non alcoholic drinks

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
NA. I have not been able to recreate this issue

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
NA. tab closes before I can snip the screen

Expected result:
Unwanted tabs have never previously appeared

Reproduces how often:
Once every week or so recently

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Windows 10 / Brave 1.46.140

If you could kindly answer the following, this will help to narrow down the issue.

  1. Does this issue still persist even with Brave Shields set to aggressive?
  2. Are these pop-ups appearing on every site you are visiting or a specific site you are on?
  3. Also did you install any programs or extensions in the past or recently that might be causing this issue?

You might want to consider doing a malware scan if by chance to eliminate the possibility there is something on your computer.

Looks like malware to me. check your extensions or apps (.exe) installed on your windows PC.

Scan your device with https://www.malwarebytes.com/

Thanks guys - few responses below:

1 - I just set the block ads / trackers and fingerprinting to aggressive so will check if that changes things
2 - There doesn’t seem to be a particular pattern regarding the previous site. My vague recollection was that the most recent pop-up showed up when I opened Twitter but could be misremembering. Will update if it occurs again with more specific feedback
3 - I don’t believe I have made any new installations. I checked my add / remove program list and nothing unusual appears on there. Appears to be program updates only for Brave / other internet browsers and Microsoft programs
4 - I have had Norton 360 + Malwarebytes and both scans have returned nothing in terms suspicious programs. I tried running Power Eraser for Norton as well and it didn’t detect anything either

Just to confirm, are you sure you’re not seeing Brave Private ads?

My impression was that Brave Private ads were pop-ups in gray / black at the bottom right of the window. These are a new tab that opens up for a few seconds and then closes by itself. But happy to be corrected if I’m wrong!

Would it be possible for you to get a screenshot or a screen recording of the behavior so I can see exactly what you’re seeing on your end?
