Ad blocking on Youtube

Hi

So I have the shield and ad blocking/trackers on Aggressive, but I still see a black screen with 15 second before I watch a video (basically an ad). I was wondering what happen?

No, so usually I use youtube without ads for like 6 months now, because I have the ad blocker on. But for some reason, it doesn’t work now

YT sometimes get an upper hand, but which OS are you using? I’ve read macOS has many iues in that regard.

So I was using ad blocker as well as shields. I have since been using Pie Adblock. Haven’t seen any ads at all since using Pie

Placeholder instead of advertising:
Some websites and services (especially video hosting) introduce “stubs” in place of advertising. Even if the ad blocker removes the ads, the waiting time itself (15 seconds) remains. This is done to punish users of blockers.

  1. Dynamic or encrypted queries:
Modern advertising platforms use encrypted requests or dynamic ad loading, which are more difficult to filter out. Sometimes the blocker doesn’t have time to stop them in time.

  2. The replay trick:
On some platforms (such as YouTube), video playback actually stops at the “ad loading” stage. Even if the ad is blocked, the playback delay still remains.

  3. Insufficient filtration:
It’s possible that your filter lists haven’t been updated. Even on an aggressive level, there is a chance that filters don’t cover all scenarios. Update the filters in the blocker (for example, EasyList, black Origin or AdGuard Base Filters). Use DNS blocking, such as AdGuard DNS or NextDNS, to filter at the system level.Check other blockers, as some (for example, uBlock Origin) may be more effective on specific sites.Use Pi-hole (if possible) to deeply block ads on the network.

Try using this User Script it works well for me at blocking the YouTube anti ad blocker crap, it works by replacing the default player.

You will need a User Script Manager to install it in such as Tampermonkey.

I prefer to install it in the paid version of the System Wide Adguard App for macOS because it is browser independent and is not affected by Chromes M3 changes.

Thank you, it works now

Hopefully this solution will last for a while, as one of YouTube’s tactics deployed against ad blockers was imposing a message overlaid on their video player and not allowing it to play when ad blockers were detected.

So far this script is working well and dynamically substituting the default video player with another player is working well.

Let’s see how long it takes for YouTube to figure out what this User Script is doing, I hope it takes them a long time to develop counter measures.

However with the ongoing battle against adverts it is often an ongoing game of Whack a Mole, you think they have been beaten and then yet another advertising tactic is deployed.

Thanks so much for helping bro
