About:preferences#payments crashing when opened (Linux Mint 18.3)

#1

Received notification that payments would be processed soon, so went to payments preferences page (when prompted by Brave) to adjust payees, which I did fine last month. This month, I viewed payee list, began to toggle off some sites I did not want to support via BAT (one by mistake…and I couldn’t find a way to turn it back on), and then selected the “more sites” (or similar link at the bottom of the list). The tab promptly crashed and now I cannot open the payments tab at all without it immediately crashing.

Hi @di63l

I am hoping you can provide some additional information for me:

  1. About how many sites do you have on your Payments page? (just approximately, 50? 100? 1000?)
  2. When you say you were toggling sites off, just so I’m clear, you do mean the ‘Include’ toggle in the table?
  3. When the Payments page crashes on you, does the entire browser close?

Thanks,
Lauren

1/ Hard to say since I can’t access the payments page. Perhaps 30 sites were displayed before I clicked the ‘See More’ link and the crash. Brave is my primary browser and I do quite bit of online research. Easily hundreds+ of sites visited over the course of a month (probably not thousands). (Note: this machine has 32GB RAM, so device RAM shouldn’t be limiter, I’d think.)

2/ Toggling sites off meant toggling the ‘include’ switch in the list of sites I had visited over the month (i.e., I was make judgments about individual websites, like Google (not included) or Brave.com (included)).

3/ Just the tab crashes. Verifying it again just now, I momentarily see the wallet stats load at the top and then it seems to crash before it can display any of the list of sites visited (and details about those).

Thanks @di63l - just wondering, have you tried closing/reopening Brave? Curious if something got stuck.

In the mean time, I’ll try to reproduce.

Thanks,
Lauren

Closed and re-opened browser. Rebooted machine and opened fresh browser.

Tab still crashing.

Thanks! Will investigate.

I’m having trouble reproducing the issue @di63l - could you try opening dev tools and seeing if there’s any errors in the console when you crash? You could try from the terminal too.

I may need better instructions from you on how to log what you are asking for.

Having said that, this is what I see:

  • Four elements loading from the disk cache first (svg + xml): status 200
  • Then, an attempt to load 1,100+ other elements from aboutPages.entry.js:1 all at once, the vast majority of which are “status: (pending),” “size: 0 bytes,” and “time: (pending).” The vast majority do not indicate a file type.
  • The very few elements that partially load are reported as “from memory cache.”

Edit: the 1,100+ other elements appear to be the websites I visited over the month.
