I quite often save files that require long file names.
Sometimes the download fails because the file name is too long.
If you press on the downloads icon (top right) it opens “Recent download history” where you can see a “something went wrong” message next to each failed download.
I would like to be able to edit the file name that is too long here and continue saving.
Please can you make this function available.

Go to brave://settings/downloads and toggle on the Ask where to save each file before downloading option:
With this enabled, the browser will display the system prompt allowing you to pick where you want to save the file, and also allow you to rename it as you choose the location.
Thank you but I am specifically talking about files that I am already trying to save that I give a file name that turns out to be too long.
In this case I would like to be able to click on the download icon and within “Recent download history” be able to rename the file and complete the download successfully with a file name that allows it to save.
By chance, if you are using the Windows OS, I suggest that you create a “Downloads_Spcl” folder:
C:\Downloads_Spcl\
Set that as your default downloads folder.
Test, without attempting to change the filename. Repeat, this is a test.
The above suggestion, because when using the Windows OS, you can run into a maximum total-path length limitation.
Thanks, yes I came to that conclusion as the same longer file names would save elsewhere. I would just like to see the functionality available within “Recent download history”. Appreciate the help.
