3 device sync lost bookmarks - can i restore

Description of the issue:

  1. I created a sync chain on device A, linux laptop -bookmarks only
  2. i added android tablet device B - bookmarks only
    bookmarks on both devices success
  3. i added android phone device C to sync - bookmarks only
  4. device C had same bookmark tree structure but far less populated
  5. device C bookmark tree clobbered device A an B bookmark tree causing loss of hundreds of unrecoverable bookmarks
  6. how can i recover theses

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

  1. created sync chain on linux device A for bookmarks

important tree branch(sparse)
Mobile devices->Health-Diet

important tree branch (heavily populated)
Mobile Bookmarks->Health->Diet

3. Mobile Bookmarks->Health->Diet

  • device A and B synced as expected
  1. added device C

important branch (very sparse)
Mobile Bookmarks->Health->Diet

“Mobile Bookmarks->Health->Diet” clobbered device A and B branches

I desperately need that tree, it is used every day for nutrition and recipes
How can i recover those bookmarks?

Reproduces how often:
i only did it once and cannot recreate… distraught

Additional Information:
I need to know how i can recover those bookmarks or where they may be stored on the linux laptop or android (not rooted) devices

@topset Umm, part of the issue might be because you’re not keeping things updated. Why is your one Android only on 1.42.97? Version 1.42 was back around June. You can and will experience issues if you fail to keep them updated.

@Alexey and @Mattches I’ve seen a handful of people who have mentioned similar issues. Is there a solution or are they kind of just out of luck?

Saoiray, thanks for responding. the phone with v1.42.97 is a new phone. the apps were carried across from my old phone which had Brave installed from fdroid. i think that is the reason why play store has not been updating it. that’s now fixed. i really need to recover those clobbered bookmarks. i’ll have to get in the habit of exporting the bookmarks from each device weekly into a git repo for backup. i was hoping sync would be safe. maybe i misused it.
